Breese, IL – Community Link is looking toward the future and taking steps to elevate its Day Program by creating more opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to learn, grow, and connect with their communities.
Because of changes in Illinois law and the Dignity in Pay Act, on-site production work is being phased out across the state. Community Link has made the decision to end all on-site production work effective June 30, 2028. Community Link wants the community to know that Day Program is not going away. Community Link is not going away. The organization is elevating Day Program.
“For many years, production work has been a big part of Community Link, but it has never been the only part of what we do,” said John Huelskamp, executive director of Community Link. “We honor the history of production work while also looking ahead to what is possible for the people we support. This is an opportunity to create even more choices and meaningful experiences.”
Community Link has already begun preparing for this transition. The organization has been working through a multi-phase plan to develop a new vision for Day Program: “Elevating our Day Program by expanding opportunities for employment, personal growth, community connections, and independence.
The organization is working with Day Program leaders and staff to explore what a meaningful day can and should look like beyond production work, both inside its locations and throughout the community.
Depending on each person’s interests, goals, and choices, future opportunities may include learning new skills, exploring hobbies, volunteering, pursuing community employment, and building friendships and connections.
Community Link recognizes that elevating Day Program will take the support and partnership of the entire community. The organization would like to share gratitude for all those who have been a support for over 54 years, and to those who continue to share their vision for the future.
