Breese, IL – Community Link is excited to announce that the organization has been awarded Dignity in Pay (DIP) transition grant funding for the next 2 years from the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). The agency is grateful for the efforts of those in the community who signed witness slips to show support and help secure the funding.
This funding presents a major opportunity for growth, innovation, and continued progress toward a future of providing an “inside-out” service model, rather than an “outside-in” model. Historically, most day program services for adults with developmental disabilities have been offered at the agency’s onsite locations. Services are being expanded to include more opportunities within the community.
The organization is optimistic about the possibilities the funding creates, especially in the areas of employment services, community engagement, and expanding meaningful opportunities for program participants. The focus is on increasing choice, independence, skill-building, and community involvement.
Community Link submitted a plan of action to DHS to implement a multi-phase strategy to execute the new grant activities. The DIP grant supports the creation of 2 full-time positions that will help build the transformation bridge from facility-based services to the community.
The Community Opportunities Professional position will work alongside Community Link participants in community settings. The position plays a critical role in helping individuals explore interests, develop new skills, and achieve personal goals.
The Employment and Inclusion Coordinator will be responsible for developing a network of community partners, coordination of employment and inclusion opportunities, and oversight of the bridge from internal production work to community-based opportunities.
