Lace up your sneakers, grab your sunglasses and get ready for the 12th Annual Community Link Buddy Walk this Saturday, May 5 at North Side Park in Breese. With sunshine and warm temperatures, they're anticipating an even larger than last year.
Registrations will be accepted up to the day of the event. T-shirts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Craft & Vendor Marketplace will be located on the main parking lot at North Side Park and will be open from 9 am to 3 pm. There are some fabulous donated items for the silent auction which will be open from 9 am to 1:15 pm.
The Children's Corner will include free activities such as bouncy houses, face painting, train cars and character visits by Belle, Spiderman and Izzy the Grizzlie. Entry into this area is included in your child's registration.
Community Link has added new features to this year's Buddy Walk. In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, families from their First Step program will host pico de gallo and guacamole making demonstrations along with sharing their favorite recipes.
Community Link will also have bingo, a beer stand, margarita stand and live music starting at 12:30 pm. Musicians Glenn Harris and Michael Bovenzi, also known as The Love Brothers, will play acoustic covers of top tunes from the 60s and 70s.
Lunch is not included in the price of your registration, but will be available for purchase. Three local vendors will be offering a variety of choices including hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue and tacos with Community Link receiving 15 percent of the profits.
Parking
Parking will not be available on North 10th Street and parking on the streets will be limited during the 5K race from 9 am to approximately 10 am. There will be park available at Mater Dei High School's parking lot with free shuttles transporting Buddy Walkers to and from North Side Park. During the 5K race, you can access Mater Dei's parking lot by traveling west on North 11th Street and turning left on Cherry Street to Mater Dei. The shuttle will pick up and drop off from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.
