Children's Waiver

The Children’s Support Waiver provides support to eligible children and young adults with developmental disabilities ages 3-21 who live at home with their families. The supports provided are designed to prevent or delay the need for out-of-the home residential services for children and young adults.

Children’s Waiver is funded through the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). The program accepts referral from the State PUNS (Prioritization of Urgency of Need for Services) system. Families are awarded a monthly allocation for each Waiver participant, and families can select from a menu of services based on the participant’s needs. Families may choose services from traditional agencies, as well as individual providers identified by the family. The First Step program provides Service Facilitation for the Children’s Waiver program.
